All cleaning solutions that we recommend to clean hardwood floors finished with Bona Kemi© varnishes and conditioners, do come from BONA.  We strongly caution all our Clients from using any other products that are not recommended by the manufacturer, as they may cause harm to your environment and damage the finish applied to your flooring.  

Products and Methods to avoid when cleaning
Real Hardwood Flooring and Engineered Wood Flooring

In the day and age of new Influencers striving to come up with new methods of cleaning, it is easy to get confused and overwhelmed when it comes to advice available online.  

There is plenty to say about using electric steamers on your real hardwood flooring.  Please don't ever do this, regardless how convincing the sales person at that Home Show was.  You will be damaging not only the finish of your hardwood, but also you will be destroying the integrity of the wood overtime. 

The newest craze we keep seeing, petrifies us to the core.  Women all over Canada and US are using spin mops like the one we recommend for Luxury Vinyl Plank Floor cleaning; with  boiling water (!), dishwasher detergent pods, some aromatherapy oils and laundry softeners!  If I could just somehow express my outrage here in a polite way.  Are you kidding me?!  If this is used on real hardwood flooring, they are single-handedly destroying the finish and the wood of their often very expensive new hardwood floors! The warranty?  G O N E!  Trust me on this.  Do not ever do this on real hardwood.  

Hardwood flooring should only be cleaned using products recommended for specific species by the manufacturer, specifically formulated or intended for the finish brand.  

Cleaning Products for Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring Care & Maintenance

Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring as well as Tile or Stone Flooring is the ONLY flooring that can be cleaned with a steam mop!

This is one of my favorite products for cleaning vinyl plank flooring. Highly recommended for anyone with this type of flooring in short term rentals as well.  Easy and fast to use.  I relax when using this mop.  Allows for deep cleaning and disinfection.  Should only be used with water.  This one is from Bissell - Power Fresh Steam Mop

Please do not ever us it on real hardwood, engineered flooring or on laminate floors.  

We choose to promote those specific products as they protect and improve the condition of the flooring in your home.  We will never recommend anything that we haven't used ourselves on our own floors.  We select cleaners from Bona Kemi, as we've used their finishes and know their quality for more than 25 years now.  

Please DO NOT USE on your hardwood flooring

Please refrain from using Rejuvenate on your real hardwood flooring; it will cause your varnish to bubble and peel with repeated use over time.  

Over the last several months, we had repeated, frantic calls from customers asking to remedy a problem that was created when this was used on hardwood in hopes to restore the former lustier.  

At first the flooring looks nice and shiny, then with time the varnish starts to bubble, and with time it continues to peel.
