Ash Floor Refinishing: One of our recent and most rewarding projects involved refinishing a beautiful custom-milled rustic Ash hardwood floor. This stunning 11-year-old floor featured 4-inch-wide plank boards, some extending up to an impressive 12 feet in length. While it had retained its character over the years, it was time for a refresh to restore its natural beauty and enhance its durability.
Using our Bona dustless sanding system, we meticulously removed the worn-out finish and prepared the surface for a fresh, new look. The homeowner selected Minwax’s Medium Brown stain, a choice that beautifully complemented the wood’s natural grain patterns. We then sealed the refinished floor with Bona Traffic Satin finish, ensuring a durable, long-lasting surface with a subtle sheen that highlights the warm undertones of the wood.

The Refinishing Process
Step 1: Assessment and Preparation

Step 3: Staining with Minwax Medium Brown
Once the floor was sanded to a flawless, smooth surface, it was time to apply the stain. The homeowner opted for Minwax Medium Brown, a rich, warm shade that enhances the natural grain of the ash. This stain beautifully complements both modern and traditional interiors, adding warmth and depth to the room’s overall ambiance.
We applied the stain evenly, allowing it to penetrate the wood and bring out the natural grain variations. After the stain dried, we inspected the floor for consistency and made any necessary touch-ups before moving on to the final step.
Step 4: Sealing with Bona Traffic Satin Finish
To protect the newly stained floor and enhance its longevity, we applied Bona Traffic Satin finish. This high-performance waterborne finish is known for its durability, fast drying time, and low VOC content, making it an excellent choice for health-conscious homeowners. The satin sheen provides a subtle glow without being overly glossy, maintaining the floor’s natural charm while offering superior protection against daily wear and tear.
